On Saturday, Feb. 22, the National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center will host “African American Pioneers in Aviation Day.” Visitors will have the chance to meet NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps and watch a new puppet show produced for the museum about the Tuskegee Airmen.
WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — The New England Air Museum will hold Open Cockpit Day March 16. On that day visitors will be able to climb into the cockpits of up to nine vintage airplanes, including two supersonic jet fighters, the Vietnam era Huey helicopter, the World War II P-47 Thunderbolt, the Vintage DC-3 airliner, and more.
A special feature of the day will be a program on the museum’s World War II Goodyear blimp car ,which is in its final stages of restoration.
DAYTON, Ohio — National Museum of the U.S. Air Force visitors will be cleared for liftoff when the museum’s new Space Shuttle Exhibit opens to the public on Feb. 26.
The exhibit, which features NASA’s first Crew Compartment Trainer, allows visitors to experience the size and shape of an actual space shuttle orbiter by entering the payload bay and looking into the flight deck and mid-deck levels.
An air racing symposium will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, Calif. It will feature top winning race pilots, who will share some of the best air racing stories from the last five decades, museum officials promise.

SEATTLE — With the Tom Hanks movie, “Captain Phillips,” now a nominee for the Motion Picture Academy’s Best Picture award, on Jan. 25 visitors to the Museum of Flight can get a behind-the-scenes look at the real story from someone who participated in the Navy rescue operation of Capt. Phillips depicted in the film. Museum visitors can also see on exhibit the actual ScanEagle drone and Navy sniper bullets used in the rescue of Capt. Phillips.
The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will celebrate the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center’s 10th anniversary with an open house Saturday, Jan. 25. For one day only, the museum will give visitors a rare, behind-the-scenes look into spaces usually inaccessible to the public.
