Olivehurst, Calif. — The theme of the June 8-10 Golden West Regional Fly-In & Airshow at Yuba County Airport (MYV) is, “Keeping the Spirit Alive – Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Marysville Army Airfield.” The 70th Anniversary of Camp Beale and the Doolittle Raid will also be recognized. Pilots of all types of aircraft from Light Sport to our Military Jets are expected to participate. According to Golden West President Amy Clemens, “The event is as much about the aircraft as it is about friends coming together to renew acquaintances and to make new ones.”
If you plan to fly anywhere near Thurmont, Maryland (May 18-19) or Chicago (May 19-21) be very careful. Thurmont is playing host to a G-8 Summit while a NATO Summit will be Chicago. Flight Advisory’s for Thurmont and Chicago events have been posted to the FAA website.
The language in these advisories are very strong. “The restrictions are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for the event” and “The United States Government may use deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat.”
A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor will fly at the August 24-26 Rocky Mountain Airshow in Broomfield, Colorado. F-22 demo teams will make just 20 appearances worldwide in 2012. The 10th annual air show will include aircraft ranging from WWI replicas to state of the art technology. Fireworks follow a Hot Air Balloon Glow and the twilight air show on Friday night. The AdventureZone kid’s area will showcase numerous activities and hands on projects to engage and excite kids of all ages while emphasizing the importance of STEM curricula. Hundreds of aircraft from across the country will also be on site for the 32nd annual Rocky Mountain Regional Fly-in held in conjunction with the air show.
Tuskegee Airmen from the Denver metro area will gather to dine at Movie Tavern in Aurora, Colorado. Sheltair, located at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, has been selected as the official FBO to the 52nd Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, being held October 27-31, 2011.” The boat show is the largest in the U.S.
“Every year differs in expected traffic throughout the show. Normally we get in anywhere between 45-60 arrivals per day including our regular transient business,” noted Jennifer Colon, Director of Marketing for Sheltair. “Our ramp space allows for even more. The airport also provides our facility with extra ramp parking for the event.”
The Scottsdale Air Fair will return to the Scottsdale Airport [Arizona] on November 5 and 6. The air fair was canceled in the aftermath of 9/11 attacks ten years ago. Hosted by the City of Scottsdale, the air fair supports the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program and other community organizations.
