JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Matt Tuohy, a Navy flight veteran and senior corporate executive, has been named director of Jacksonville University’s Davis Aviation Center.
DENVER, Colorado – Charlie Johnson, president and COO of Aero Electric Aircraft Corp. (AEAC), was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Oct. 4.
Johnson, the former president of Cessna, is a well-known industry veteran and advocate of electric propulsion for general aviation. Jerrie Mock, the first woman to fly solo around the globe, died in her sleep Tuesday, Sept. 30, at her home in Quincy, Florida. She was 88. Mock was 38 and a stay-at-home mother of three living in Ohio when she took off from Port Columbus Airport on March 19, 1964, in the “Spirit of Columbus,” an 11-year-old, single-engine Cessna 180. DULUTH, Minn. — Cirrus Aircraft recently announced five executive appointments.
Stallion 51’s Mustang assistant crew chief Kris Riel was recently sworn into the US Navy by AvDoc 51’s Dr. W.T. Busch. Dr. Busch is a retired Navy captain who was a Naval Aviator and flight surgeon from 1976 through 2005 before joining Stallion 51 as Senior FAA Medical Examiner.
Kris will continue on at Stallion 51 until he reports to Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., on Oct. 12 for his 12-week training program before reporting to Pensacola Naval Air Station for flight training.
Sad news: We just found out that long-time CFI John McLain, who wrote a column for General Aviation News’ former sister paper The Southern Aviator, passed away in April after a battle with pancreatic cancer. A very nice tribute written by John Hesse was posted on the Empire Aviation website. The website also has a catalog of John’s past columns.
Joe Burdzy has joined Air Orlando Maintenance as Service Manager. He brings over 35 years of experience to the company, which is at Orlando Executive Airport (ORL) in Florida. His position encompasses all maintenance and parts functions including customer liaison, employee management and shop scheduling.
