Airplane shipments up 4.2% in first nine months of year

WASHINGTON, DC – The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) today released the results of the first nine months of general aviation industry shipments and billings for 2012, which shows thatairplane shipments increased 4.2% compared to 2011, while the accompanying value of the airplane deliveries rose 1.4%.

Cessna builds on safety education initiative

Cessna Aircraft Co. is building on a safety initiative started in 2011 designed to educate single engine owners on new inspection procedures. The latest effort is aimed at 100 series single-engine piston aircraft owners around the world, and informs them about new supplemental aircraft inspection procedures that will be added to 100 series Cessna service manuals.

Sporty’s has published aviation historian Phil Scott’s latest book, “Then and Now: How Airplanes Got This Way,” which explores how airplanes evolved into the form and silhouette we see today. It is a light-hearted look at the people and events that shaped today’s general aviation airplane, company officials said.
