On May 19, six Able Flight scholarship winners will arrive at Purdue University in Indiana to begin five weeks of intensive flight and ground training, an experience that will change their lives forever. The six men come from all over the country, and though their disabilities and challenges may be varied, they share the common goal of wanting to become a pilot.
Two Kansas State University Aviation students have been selected to receive the Cessna Leadership Scholarship. The students will use the $3,000 awards to obtain flight ratings. The selected students are Carol Cooper, senior in professional pilot, Hutchinson, Kan.; and Megan Henderson, junior in professional pilot, Topeka, Kan.
Despite the deadline to apply for a Women in Aviation International scholarship having come and gone, two new scholarships are now available for 2012. These new scholarships bring the total to 73 individual scholarships valued at $520,900 to be awarded to WAI members.
