PUYALLUP, Wash. — The first Thun Cubs and Classics at Thun Field (KPLU) was a hit. After low morning weather lifted, Cubs, Champs, a Howard DGA, a Fleet and several other aircraft arrived to enjoy a day of hanging out at the Spencer Aircraft-hosted fly-in.
The Rocky Mountain Airshow, set for Aug. 24-26, at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colorado, promises to be bigger than ever this year with the addition of hot air balloons and the expansion of the kid-friendly Adventure Zone.
A fourth aerobatics act has been added to The Wings over Waukesha Air Show, as former US Air Force A-10 pilot Jim Leavelle will be performing in his T-6, along with Jim “Fang” Maroney Super Chipmunk aerobatics, Dave Dacy-Tony Kazian wingwalking, and Dr. Bill Blank Super Decathlon aerobatics.
The airshow, which will be held Aug. 25 and 26, at the Waukesha County Airport (UES) in Wisconsin, also will feature the Experimental Aircraft Association’s B-17 “Aluminum Overcast” bomber from World War II, which will offer rides and tours.
The Pacific Coast Air Museum welcomes Navy, Marine and Air Force front line fighter jets to its airshow line-up of performers. The Wings Over Wine Country Air Show will be held at the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, Calif., Aug. 18-19.
One of the highlights of my summers is a trip to Oshkosh, Wis., for the annual AirVenture show. The best parts of the show are seeing what is new and catching up with old friends.

No matter where he goes, Tim Fox’s green Ercoupe draws a crowd
“The first time I saw it, I thought, ‘my God, that is green!’” says Tim Fox, of Fort Wayne, Ind., describing the first time he laid eyes on his Ercoupe. “Green” does not even come close to describing Fox’s 1946-C model. At last year’s AirVenture, the bright color drew people to the aircraft in the Vintage parking area and Fox stood by, proudly basking in the appreciation for his airplane.
