NEW HAMPSHIRE – Laconia Municipal Airport Manager Diane Cooper-Terrill was recently elected president of the Granite State Airport Management Association (GSAMA), becoming the first woman to serve in that office.
General aviation (GA) drives business activity at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) in Springfield, Ill., and airport officials say they will continue to invest in infrastructure to ensure the facility remains an important economic driver in the city. According to a report at NBAA.org, general aviation accounts for 87% of overall traffic at SPI.
WILMINGTON, Ohio — Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services, Inc. (AMES) and the Clinton County Port Authority report they have completed the necessary arrangements to proceed with the financing and construction of a new hangar facility at the Wilmington Air Park (ILN).

A new general aviation airport has opened in Kansas. Rooks County Regional Airport (RCP) was dedicated Sept. 29, according to a post at NBAA.org. The $6 million project, funded in part by an FAA Airport Improvement Program grant, involved constructing a 5,000-foot paved runway on a site that lies between the cities of Plainville and Stockton. Two turf runways previously served the two cities. The investment marks the first new airport built in Kansas since 1989, according to the NBAA post.
At the annual Tennessee Airports Conference, held Aug. 22-24 in Nashville, Jo Ann Speer, from Everett Stewart Regional Airport (UCY) in Union City won Airport Manager of the Year.
In the first private investment in the new general aviation area at Outgamie County Regional Airport (ATW) in Appleton, Wisconsin, the Kimberly-Clark Corp. will build a new aviation facility right next to the county’s new $5 million general aviation terminal and 12,000-square-foot hangar now under construction. According to a report at PortCrescent.com, the airport — which is just up the road from Oshkosh — has made significant investments, including access roads, parking lots, utilities, taxiways, hangars and a self-serve fueling station for private pilots and businesses that own or lease planes.
FARGO, N.D. — Fargo Jet Center and Fargo Flight School, along with the Hector International Airport, will host the 3rd Annual Fargo Airport Outdoor Movie Night on Thursday, Sept. 13. The event is designed to provide exposure and generate interest in the local community for its airport and affiliated businesses, according to FBO officials.
“Building on the success of last year’s event, we have put together a great event for the entire family,” said Darren Hall, VP of Marketing at Fargo Jet Center. “Last year’s event provided many with their first exposure to general aviation. A large percentage of the population never makes it out to the general aviation side of airports unless they have a reason. We have created that reason.”
Montauk Airport, which features a 3,200-foot landing strip, one small hangar and an office, is up for sale for $18 million. The airport is located on 37 acres at the far eastern tip of Long Island, about 120 miles from midtown Manhattan. According to a story in the New York Daily News, the airport has seen a lot of celebrities, from U2’s Bono and Paul McCartney to locals like Billy Joel and Paul Simon.
