The Helicopter Association International’s Heli-Expo 2012 concluded Feb. 14 in record-breaking fashion. By the time show ended Tuesday afternoon, 19,239 people had walked through the doors, breaking the old record of 17,995 — set in 2009 — by more than 1,200.

US Aviation Group establishes helicopter training program

The US Aviation Group, based in Denton, Texas, has established a helicopter training program.

Patrick Dennis, formerly of Silver State Helicopters in Las Vegas, has signed on as head flight instructor. He has developed a program that takes students up through IFR, CFI and Commercial ratings. The school is now using a Robinson R-22, which will soon be supplemented with an R-22 simulator, and eventually an R-44, according to officials.

Price of dual instruction is $285 an hour. Solo flight costs $235 an hour.

First Sikorsky S61 with ‘glass cockpit’

Vector Aerospace has test-flown the Sikorsky S61 equipped with a fully-integrated “glass cockpit,” or Integrated Cockpit Display System (ICDS) from SAGEM Avionics. [Read more...]
