SEBRING, Florida —The ninth annual U.S. Sport Aviation Expo wrapped up a successful weekend of activities supporting general aviation and the Light-Sport Aircraft industry Sunday, Jan. 20. Expo officials estimate the weekend’s attendance will exceed last year’s record attendance of 16,000.
It’s long been my contention that people are the magnet that makes airshows and aviation gatherings worth attending — not the aircraft themselves. Admittedly, I am in the minority with that opinion, but the idea seems to be re-enforced for me year after year. This year’s US Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, was no exception.
The U.S Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, concluded at 2 p.m. Sunday with an awards ceremony and the launching of more than a dozen light-sport aircraft on a trip to the Bahamas. According to a report at EAA.org, weather for the first big airshow of the year was excellent the first day and the last day, but Friday and Saturday had temperatures as low as 41, clouds, mist, and light rain as weather to the north (which had blocked some arrivals) began to affect the Sebring area. Bristell USA has appointed US Aviation at Denton Airport (DTO) in Texas to provide Factory Authorized Service for the Bristell Light-Sport Aircraft.
The Sebing U.S. Sport Aviation Expo — considered the premiere Light-Sport Aircraft show in the country — takes off today, Jan. 17, and runs through Jan. 20. After flying more than 350 different aircraft models, I’ve become reasonably adept at what some pilots call “stick wiggling.” The reference is for all the actions you take to physically fly the plane. This is about what’s required on very basically-equipped ultralight aircraft that I still love to fly. Modern LSA, however, typically offer loaded instrument panels and, while I check out stalls, flight qualities and landings of a LSA, I rarely get any time to play with the panel goodies.
