Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome kicks off fundraising effort for new Visitors Center

RHINEBECK, N.Y.  — With a goal of breaking ground in November, Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome volunteers are hustling to raise funds for a new $150,000 Visitor Center. Plans are now complete for the gift shop, model museum and modern restrooms in one building.

The biggest challenge is the deadline, Dec. 31, 2014. That’s the date set for a $20,000 challenge grant from the Thomas Thompson Trust, which requires $130,000 to be collected by year’s end to receive the donation. A contribution of $50,000 from The Frost Memorial Trust launched the design phase, and new pledges of materials, expertise and cash will ensure the building opens next May in time for the 2015 museum season, officials note.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome airshows take off

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome will launch its 2012 airshow season June 2, with staff and volunteers meeting for the annual airshow update. A free public open house will follow the meeting at 1 p.m.
