A quarter century of power

In 1989 something remarkable happened. You might remember the fall of the despised Berlin Wall that separated Germany. Certainly that was a remarkable event in human history, but it wasn’t the only noteworthy occurrence that year. Not far away in Wels, Austria, something else happened that, for pilots, was also important.

Surprise SUN ’n FUN showing by Kitfox

When John McBean of Kitfox Aircraft announced earlier this year that the company wouldn’t be able to participate in any of the big airshows, it was a bad news/good news scenario.

The bad news: Air show attendees wouldn’t get to see the Kitfox up close and personal. The good news: The company’s success had created a backlog of orders that simply took priority over air show attendance.

OSHKOSH — BRP-Powertrain GmbH & Co KG, the Austrian company that produces the Rotax engine, signed a long-term contract at last week’s AirVenture with TL elektronic of the Czech Republic to supply its glass cockpit Engine Monitoring System for the new Rotax 912 iS engine.

Rotax expert to present forums at Arlington and Oshkosh

Earlier this year, Rotax Aircraft Engines, which commands a 75% share among LSA and light kit-built aircraft, introduced its new fuel-injected 912 iS powerplant. Rotax expert Phil Lockwood, who has first-hand experience working with the new engine, will present forums at Arlington 2012 in Washington State and at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012.

Rotax launches new 912 iS fuel-injected engine

In a product launch somewhat comparable to an Apple product event, BRP Rotax recently drew a large group of attendees to its facility in Gunskirchen, Austria, to launch its new 912 iS engine. In the tech world, “i” means Internet. In the light aviation world,  or more specifically BRP Rotax’s world, “i” now means injected.
