This may not seem to be a column about politics, but it is. Because ultimately politics is the art of people interacting with other people in order to get something done. Based on that, flight instruction falls well within the realm of politics. And just like politics in the governmental sense, the politics of flight instruction can be both as uplifting and as infuriating as the Washington D.C. variety so often is.

Kansas State University Aviation has acquired a Garmin G1000 integrated avionics training suite for the university’s avionics maintenance students and professional pilot degree programs.
“This educational training equipment will advance our avionics program to the next level and improve an already-superior hands-on experience for our K-State professional pilot students,” said Dr. Kurt Barnhart, head of K-State Aviation at the university’s Salina campus. “It will allow K-State Salina to offer an advanced avionics installation class and a G1000 troubleshooting class.”
The suite also will be used to familiarize aviation maintenance students with the system and give students in the flight program a chance to be familiar with the system prior to climbing in the cockpit of one of the K-State aircraft equipped with the system. Students in the avionics program will learn theory and troubleshooting and will lean how to install the Garmin G1000/900X.
