GlobalFlyer damaged by fuel truck

By General Aviation News Staff · January 20, 2006 ·

The GlobalFlyer was damaged in early January when it collided with a fuel truck at the Salina, Kan., airport.

A wingtip struck a fuel truck, causing “considerable” damage, according to officials at Virgin Atlantic, which sponsors the GlobalFlyer.

The plane was repaired and pilot Steve Fossett planned to fly it to Kennedy Space Center’s Space Shuttle Landing Facility at Cape Canaveral, Fla., Jan. 12.

That’s where Fossett plans to take off for his planned “Ultimate Flight,” in which he’ll travel about 29,000 non-stop miles. A date for takeoff has not been set.
