Some airplanes borrow their names from legendary heroes in Greek mythology, such as Hercules or Titan. The Xenos, a kit manufactured by Sonex Aircraft, is not one of them, although the name makes you wonder.
Xenos is the male version of Xena who, at least on television and in the realm of sci-fi and fantasy fans, is a legendary warrior princess in the time of the Olympian gods, warlords and kings.
But TV fantasy had nothing to do with the naming of the design, says Jeremy Monnett, general manager for Sonex.
“Xenos is actually Sonex spelled backward,” he said, taking a break from a busy booth at EAA AirVenture. He paused and added with a smile, “No one has ever asked us about that before.”
