Mid-Continent Instruments unveils lighter option for power management

By Janice Wood · April 7, 2009 ·

MidContinentLogo Mid-Continent Instruments has added the MD50 Static Inverter to its list of lighter, more reliable aircraft instruments.

Weighing just 3.1 lbs, the MD50 is smaller than traditional inverters, but with the same connector and footprint of legacy designs, according to company officials.

The MD50 supplies power for various cabin accessories such as laptops, cell phones, and iPods. Producing 500 watts of AC power, the MD50 converts 28 VDC input into 115 VAC, 60 Hz with a true sine wave.

Certified to FAA TSO C73 and RTCA-DO160F environmental standards, the MD50 Static Inverter features overload and short circuit protection, remote on/off capability and a self-cooling system.
