Bea vonTobel, manager of Port Orcas Airport (ORS), in Washington State’s San Juan Islands, tells GeneralAviationNews.com that she has “21 grass tiedown spots, each with an ocean view, inviting pilots to come and stay overnight camped under the wing. At $6.00 a night, hot shower available, it makes a great spot for families to come and spend time on the island.”
The annual Port Orcas fly-in is scheduled for July 31-Aug 2 and camping is free for that weekend, she said.
Downtown Port Orcas is a 10-minute walk away, where visitors will find restaurants and shops, and on weekends a farmers’ market and entertainment on the village green, she said.
“There’s always event information on the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce website, www.orcasislandchamber.com and more specific information about the Port of Orcas is posted on www.portoforcas.com.
