Flightline First grand opening slated

By Janice Wood · May 28, 2009 ·

On May 28, Flightline First will present its new headquarters to all of New Orleans at its grand opening.

The facility at Lakefront Airport – in the works for two years – is the only completed new airport project in New Orleans since hurricane Katrina. The $1.5 million renovation of the art deco style structure is in keeping with the art deco terminal building also being restored to its former 1934 glory.

After the grand opening, a non-profit corporation, “Friends of the New Orleans Lakefront Airport,” will begin to raise funds for the restoration of the Enrique Alferez sculpture called “Fountain of the Four Winds.” The fountain’s remains are in the middle of the airport’s grassy front lawn, barely visible by visitors. Restoration of the fountain sculpture will include relocating it directly in front of the terminal building.

Flightline First is a full-service FBO, which offers fuel, charter services, helicopter services, rental and crew cars, conference facilities, pilot facilities, hangars and more to the general aviation community.
