LOU FBO offers Kentucky Derby specials

By Janice Wood · May 1, 2012 ·

The world’s fastest thoroughbreds will Run for the Roses at Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, but a few miles from Churchill Downs the race started early for Louisville Executive Aviation, as the FBO readied to handle four times its usual weekend traffic.

Celebrities, horse owners and racing fans in some 300 aircraft from Los Angeles to Dubai are expected to fly into Bowman Field (LOU) for the derby, known as “The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.”

Louisville Executive Aviation, a Phillips 66 Aviation-branded dealer, is also offering double WingPoints Thursday through Saturday, May 3-5. WingPoints rewards aviation fuel purchases at participating Phillips 66 FBOs with points redeemable immediately for debit and gift cards online

Celebrations started early at Louisville Executive Aviation, which kicked off the two-week Kentucky Derby Festival with the eighth annual “Out of The Blue” Jet Show, a private aircraft reception showcasing the latest models from jet manufacturers and fractional providers, along with luxury automobile, watercraft and motorcycle dealers.

The FBO tripled its staff to handle the expected traffic. A family-owned FBO, Louisville Executive Aviation is offering competitive fuel pricing and personal service worthy of a Derby experience, says Elizabeth Hannan, Marketing and Events Manager for the FBO.

With no landing fees and a location minutes from Churchill Downs, Bowman Field has become popular, making the Derby weekend the airport’s busiest, officials noted.

Louisville Executive Aviation works closely with the Louisville Regional Airport Authority to handle the traffic seamlessly, Hannan explains. The Airport Authority will close some taxiways, turning them into parking spots for planes.
