Free general aviation pilot safety seminars slated

By Janice Wood · May 10, 2012 ·

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation is sponsoring a series of free pilot safety seminars across the state on May 12, 14-16.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Air Safety Institute will present the two-hour safety seminars at four locations across North Carolina. The presentation,  titled “Wanted Alive,” discusses trends in general aviation aircraft accidents. The seminar will explore the effect of new technology in the cockpit, as well as discussions on avoiding accidents in smaller planes.

“Programs like this seminar create a positive safety culture among North Carolina general aviation pilots,” said Division of Aviation Director Richard Walls. “These seminars are important to improve the level of service aviation provides to anyone who flies in North Carolina.”

The seminars will be held at the following times and locations:

Saturday, May 12: 10 a.m.-noon, with Mark Grady of the AOPA ISI at Foothills Regional Airport Corporate Hangar, 3566 Morganton Lenoir Airport Avenue, Morganton. The seminar will be conducted as part of the Foothills Regional Airport Fly-in. For information and directions, go to FoothillsAirport.com

Monday, May 14: 7-9 p.m., with Wayne Phillips of the AOPA ASI at Carolinas Aviation Museum, 4672 First Flight Drive, Charlotte. For information and directions, go to CarolinasAviation.org

Tuesday, May 15: 7-9 p.m., with Wayne Phillips at Wake Technical Community College Main Campus, Student Services Building conference center, 9101 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh. For information and directions, go to WakeTech.edu

Wednesday, May 16: 7-9 p.m., with Wayne Phillips at Cape Fear Community College Main Campus, S-002 auditorium, 411 N. Front St., Wilmington. For information and directions, go to CFCC.edu
