PilotMall.com named exclusive distributor for SkyRadar ADS-B receiver

By Janice Wood · May 16, 2012 ·

PilotMall.com has signed an exclusive distribution contract to sell Radenna’s latest SkyRadar weather receiver directly to the public. The weather receiver features ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) capabilities paired with a built-in WAAS enabled GPS. With this system, pilots can receive and display weather data constantly without purchasing a monthly subscription.

PilotMall.com is accepting pre-orders immediately, and the unit will be available for direct shipments beginning the week of May 21.

This advanced weather receiver connects to ADS-B stations and weather facilities. The SkyRadar base unit receives real-time coded data from NEXRAD and satellite monitoring equipment. It shows winds aloft data, METARs, TAFs, NOTAMS and PIREPs, which are overlaid on a moving map that responds to GPS coordinates. Using this information, pilots can adjust flight routes in an instant to increase safety.

The low-power unit features a USB output connection, a cigarette lighter power plug and Wi-Fi connectivity that allow pilots to access data through multiple displays.

The SkyRadar receiver is also compatible with Radenna’s software application designed for Apple iPad and iPhone devices. This optional app gives pilots the ability to access information through a touchscreen interface. When integrated with the SkyRadar iPad app, the system allows pilots to create, save and adjust flight plans, to look up airport and airspace data and to playback flight records. Radenna’s SkyRadar app also includes one-click access to runway information and air traffic control frequencies.
