Air Racers 3D to fly high in Reno theaters

By Janice Wood · August 16, 2012 ·

3D Entertainment Distribution has inked an agreement to present “Air Racers 3D,” in Reno exclusively at Cinemark Century Theatres from Sept. 7-20. The two-week theatrical engagement will coincide with the 2012 National Championship Air Races at Reno-Stead Airport, which will see the young star of the 3D film, pilot Steven Hinton, in competition for the fourth consecutive time.

Air Racers 3D will play twice daily in 3D in the evening at Cinemark Century Theatres’ four locations in Reno-Sparks: Century Riverside 12, Century Park Lane 16, Century Sparks, and Century Summit Sierra. For online tickets, go here.

“Up to 200,000 aviation fans from across the country will gather in northern Reno on Sept. 12-16 to attend these legendary air races,” said Francois Mantello, Chairman and CEO of 3D Entertainment Distribution. “Air Racers 3D unquestionably delivers a unique and visually-stunning 3D movie-going experience that is enhanced by the great narration by Paul Walker.”

“We are truly thrilled to have this special limited-time engagement for Air Racers 3D in Reno, which has been home to the National Championship Air Races since 1964,” said Air Racers 3D co-directors Christian Fry and Jean-Jacques Mantello. “To present it for the very first time to all the pilots, racing teams, race organizers and fans that make this celebration of flight one of the greatest events in motorsports is something we have dreamt of for a very long time.”

With aerial photography filmed entirely in 3D and unprecedented access granted to the course, Air Racers 3D takes audiences into the Valley of Speed to experience the intensity and high-speed thrills of a sports event like no other combined with spectacular air show entertainment. Moviegoers will discover this ultra-competitive world through Steven Hinton’s eyes and experience the power of flight in his P-51 Mustang “Strega.”

Air Racers 3D is currently playing at select IMAX theatres and Digital 3D cinemas across the US, including in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, National Naval Aviation Museum (Pensacola, Fla.), USS Lexington Museum on the Bay (Corpus Christi, Texas), US Space and Rocket Center (Huntsville, Ala.) and the National Museum of the US Air Force (Dayton, Ohio), among other locations. Internationally, the film recently made its debuts in Denmark at Copenhagen’s Tycho Brahe Planetariet, at Kaohsiung’s National Museum of Science and Technology in Taiwan, and in China’s Hangzhou Low Carbon Museum of Science and Technology. Air Racers 3D, which was three years in the making with a $5 million budget, is produced by 3D Entertainment USA and Pretend Entertainment in association with Stereoscope, and distributed worldwide by 3D Entertainment Distribution. Directed by Christian Fry and Jean-Jacques Mantello (Sharks 3D, Ocean Wonderland 3D), principal photography in 4K & 3D took place during the 2009 and 2010 Reno National Championship Air Races and was completed at Reno Stead Field Airport in June 2011.
