Vertical Power to sponsor AirVenture Cup

By General Aviation News Staff · June 15, 2013 ·

The EAA AirVenture Cup Race has welcomed Vertical Power, a designer and producer of electronic circuit breakers for experimental and light-sport aircraft, as a major sponsor of the 2013 AirVenture Cup Race.

In addition to a monetary donation, Vertical Power is donating two VP-X Pro electronic circuit breaker systems and accompanying wiring harnesses. The units will be awarded to the 1st Place winners of the Formula FX Blue and RV Blue race classes.

“The AirVenture Cup captures the spirit of experimental aviation,” said Marc Ausman, president of Vertical Power, “and we are happy to be working alongside EAA and other sponsors to support this exciting event.”

The AirVenture Cup kicks off in Mount Vernon, Ill. (MVN) on Friday, July 26, with media flights in advance of an airport open house the following day, Saturday, July 27. The airport open house is open to anyone arriving by car or by air and takes place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Race aircraft will be on display for public viewing, with some of the airplanes providing Young Eagles flights. In years past, the event has drawn more than 2,500 attendees and yielded in excess of 250 Young Eagles flights in a single day.

Vertical Power executives will participate in the pre-race briefing and pilot dinner in Mt. Vernon on Saturday evening. The race will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, and finish at Waupaca Municipal Airport (PCZ) in Wisconsin, with two checkpoints in between, totaling approximately 450 miles.

The proceeds donated by Vertical Power will directly support race administration as well as the awards presentation held on Sunday evening in Oshkosh (OSH), where the race winners will be announced.

This year’s race is open to virtually all makes and models of general aviation aircraft, with more details available on the race website. Registration is open until July 1.
