OAKLAND, California — Bobbie Phelps Wolverton, author of “Behind The Smile” will speak at the Oakland Aviation Museum’s next Open Cockpit Day Sept. 15.
Wolverton was a flight attendant for World Airways, an international charter airline company headquartered in Oakland, California. She flew for six years into Vietnam during the height of the war, taking soldiers to and from airports close to the battlefields.
At noon at the Oakland Aviation Museum’s annual Open Cockpit Day, she will share details of the drama and danger during this most violent time in commercial aviation. In addition, she will highlight sensational episodes she experienced between 1965 and 1972 in Europe, the Orient, and Egypt (during the infamous 6-Day War).
