WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Just shy of its one-year anniversary Props Restaurant and Lounge at the Watsonville Municipal Airport is offering a new menu with healthier choices.
Pilots, passengers and patrons alike can now choose Prop’s cole slaw instead of fries as an option with their burgers noted with airports codes. The Salmon Bagel Burger (MRY) is one of the latest creations and for those who are curious the airport code MRY stands for Monterey Regional Airport. As for appetizers, there is now a choice for steamed artichoke as well as the standard favorite of their beer battered version. Portabella Bleu Cheese Wedges and a Caprese & Bread Plate have also been added to the Pre-Fights. Two new salads have made their way onto the menu. One features their Bloody Mary Skirt Steak and the other is a Chinese Chicken Salad topped with won ton crisps and Mandarin oranges. The Local Flights menu now has a Teriyaki Bowl with choice of Chicken, Skirt Steak or Salmon over rice.
Many of the old favorites have remained on the menu such as the Sand Dabs in a white wine lemon and butter sauce as well as the Lamb Shanks simmered in Rosemary, garlic and Roma tomatoes, according to restaurant officials. The Blackened Salmon Salad with its house-made Lemon and Chive Vinaigrette has also stayed.
Nearly every night of the week boasts a Cross-Country Flight including BBQ Ribs on Monday, Chicken Fried Steak on Tuesday, Prime Rib on Wednesday, Surf ‘n Turf on Thursday and of course Fried Chicken on Sunday. The Chef also offers a Daily Pasta Special. Props is proud to include locally sourced products such as produce from El Valle in Watsonville, Seafood from Stagnaros in Santa Cruz, fresh baked breads from Aldos in Soquel as well as meats from nearby Hollister.
Andrew Crocker, one of the owners, was recently quizzed as to what their favorites are on the menu and he enthusiastically responded “My favorite new dish is the Chicken Fried Steak made in house with New York Steak served with collard greens and mashed potatoes with gravy served on Tuesdays.”
He also said “Kryss (his wife and co-owner) loves the Margarita Prawn appetizer. The chef is proud of the tender Calamari Piccata Dish.” They recently had fun on their Facebook page challenging fans with a “Tag Line” contest and so far the favorite is Props Restaurant at the Airport.. Enjoy our Spin on American Comfort Food. ”
The restaurant is popular with entire families. Kids enjoy the wooden planes they receive upon their visit to Props. Big kids at heart love the experience of sitting on the tarmac watching the planes take off and land while enjoying their favorite meals. Props Restaurant and Lounge officials added they are looking forward to the upcoming Watsonville Fly-In Air Show Labor Day Weekend.
Anybody have a clue as to why they don’t serve breakfast? Ask for bacon and eggs and they tell you no.
Sounds Great, I’ll have to give it a try. Is this the old “Zuniga’s” or a new establishment?
This is a new establishment. Family and I have flown in a number of times and enjoyed the restaurant. It’s good food, and of course the beautiful Watsonville airport is perfect for watching great airplanes land and takeoff. Let’s support GA and the local businesses!
