Bimini Sands resort offers pilots airport processing fee rebate

By General Aviation News Staff · August 17, 2013 ·

SOUTH BIMINI, Bahamas — Bimini Sands Resort & Marina is offering a rebate of up to $75 to private pilots who fly into Bimini International Airport (BIM) and stay a minimum of two nights at the resort. This rebate is intended to help cover the new processing fee of $50 to $75 for private pilots entering the Bahamas, which went into effect July 1.

Upon presentation of a valid pilot’s license and proof of payment of the processing fee, Bimini Sands will deduct the fee from the pilot’s final resort bill.

“Most private pilots enjoyed paying zero fees upon landing at Bimini Airport until now,” said Bimini Sands Resort CEO Frank Cooney. “This rebate offer is our way of defraying the new fee and making a visit Bimini Sands and the Bimini Islands more affordable for those who want to fly here on their own.”

Located 50 miles east of Miami on South Bimini, Bimini Sands Resort & Marina is a convenient Bahamas destination for pilots who want to escape to a tropical paradise and enjoy the laid-back pace of “island time,” resort officials said.

Bimini International Airport (BIM) has a 5,409-foot runway and on-site customs and immigration services. Private aircraft parking space is available, and the airport currently is undergoing improvements that will expand that space even further, resort officials noted.
