Pilot Mall to celebrate new HQ

By General Aviation News Staff · October 29, 2013 ·

LAKELAND, Florida — Pilot Mall will celebrate its new headquarters on the SUN ’n FUN campus at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport Nov. 15-16 with an Open House during the “When Pigs Fly South BBQ Challenge.” Last year, some 120 aircraft flew in for the event — four times the number pre-registered.

When Pigs Fly South hosts some 30 world-class competitors cooking up BBQ and Southern fare for aviators and the central Florida community. Among colorful competitors: Hot Wachula’s, Skin-n-Bones, Smokin’ Hooligans, Gourmet Rednecks and AOC Sticky Pigs.

The event also features show cars, motorcycles and aircraft on display. Exhibitors will display RVs and accessories from Camping World plus motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles from Sky Powersports.

The joint will be jumping with live music, events and kids activities Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., rain or shine.

To welcome Open House visitors, Pilot Mall will award door prizes including an ANR headset, a laser rescue light, Q Ref and Checkmate aviation checklists, a Sky Nav Atlas, Just Planes DVDs, Aviation Tutorials software, Babiators sunglasses for kids and much more. Industry reps from Sennheiser, Sky Nav and Clarity Aloft will be in attendance.

Check Sun-n-Fun.org for the arrival procedures NOTAM and more info on When Pigs Fly South. Admission is free; car parking is $5.

Pilot Mall’s Aviation Superstore and new headquarters is on the SUN ‘n FUN campus, 4040 Laird Boulevard behind Hangar B, adjacent to show center for When Pigs Fly South.
