SD Governor proclaims ‘Civil Air Patrol Day’

Governor Dennis Daugaard has issued a proclamation designating Feb. 20 as “Civil Air Patrol Day” in South Dakota.

The proclamation commends the South Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol for its willingness to undertake a multitude of missions and perform a variety of services in support of communities, counties and the state.

It also praises the highly-trained corps of volunteer members who make up South Dakota’s Civil Air Patrol Wing who provide an invaluable service to the state of South Dakota and its people.

2014 CAP Day ProclamationOn Thursday, members of the South Dakota Wing from across the state will converge on the state capitol in Pierre to meet with legislators to thank them for their support. The members will also brief them on the latest enhancements and advancements to the Wing’s abilities and capabilities.

The South Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, with squadrons in Sioux Falls, Brookings, Rapid City, Pierre, Custer and Spearfish has approximately 300 members, six light aircraft and 17 multi-purpose vehicles. These assets are available to federal, state and county governments, emergency responders and law enforcement agencies to perform search and rescue, homeland security, disaster relief, humanitarian assistance and counter-drug missions.
