School district signs on as Institute of Aerospace Education sponsor

By General Aviation News Staff · March 29, 2014 ·

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Institute for Aerospace Education has been provided a $25,000 sponsorship from the Frankfort Independent Schools.

Frankfort Independent Schools (FIS) has been working closely with the Institute since its founding in 2010.

For nearly four years, the IAE has provided courses, industry standard resources, and technical assistance for students in the IAE’s learning laboratory, the Frankfort High School Aerospace Academy.

The Institute learns from the FHS Aerospace Academy and passes those lessons on to its network of schools.

Now serving over 30 school districts in Kentucky and Tennessee, this STEM education initiative’s roots came from this partnership.

“Frankfort Independent Schools appreciates the opportunity to continue our partnership with IAE to create opportunities for young people in aerospace,” said Rich Crowe, FIS superintendent. “Whether it is flying, maintaining, designing or building airplanes, we are providing support in the form of funding, personnel, students, and time for this important work. It is very important work indeed.”

In the IAE, students earn industry certificates and dual college credit in flight/aeronautics, aircraft maintenance, aerospace engineering, and aviation operations/management.
