Altitude Group has completed Phase I flight testing of the P85. Based on the fixed-gear tailwheel Radial Rocket is powered by a 400-horsepower liquid cooled Chevy LS V8 engine.
“Combining V8 power with a very capable and proven airframe design has resulted in a new benchmark for high performance with economy of acquisition and operation,” said Jeff Ackland, Altitude Group‘s Manager.
The P85 swings a 3-blade 80-inch Catto Prop, seats 2 (tandem), enjoys a 252 mph high-speed cruise, climbs at 3,200 feet per minutes (solo) and has an 800 pound useful load. The composite airframe is designed for aerobatic flight. P85 Streamline Airframe Kits start at $49,950.
Really neat. And it sounds good. Why did the builder use an auto conversion when the Russians make a radial with similar power and proven reliability?
They offer a version of this same airframe with the Russian m14p engine.
Will do search on how I can get local financing. This is a lifetime dream of mine.
I am a R/C builder and would love to build the P85 for personal use. What degree throws do you have on the control surfaces? I have designed and built a couple of airboats, have built several airplane kits and would love to design and built the P85. I’ll stick my neck way out there to ask if you would be interested in sharing plans? I do understand Paton issues. Just love this plane!
