TSA mandates online course for CFIs

By General Aviation News Staff · January 28, 2005 ·

All over the country CFIs spent a few hours in front of the keyboard earlier this month to comply with the TSA’s security awareness training requirements for flight instructors.

CFIs are required to take the online interactive course, which is designed to teach them how to spot potential terrorist threats. The course includes tips on how to respond to suspicious situations, ranging from an encounter with a suspicious person on the ramp to dealing with a pilot who appears to be under the control of someone else.

CFIs are presented with approximately 20 scenarios that require a response. After completing the course, a CFI needs to print out the completion certificate as proof of compliance. The course can take an hour or more, depending on how fast your computer can download each scenario.
