Airbus recently unveiled its A380, which boasts more than 500 seats. But how does the A380 stack up against other large aircraft, such as the Hughes Flying Boat?
The Flying Boat fuselage is shorter than the A380, but the Hughes design has a wider wingspan, which makes sense when you recall that the Hughes aircraft has eight engines.
And on the subject of aircraft with lots of engines, the six-engine Antonov An-225 Mriya cargo plane still holds the record for the largest airplane. It was designed to carry space shuttles for the Soviet Union. Only two were built. The An-225 is approximately 33 feet longer and 8 feet wider than the A380, but the Airbus behemoth is taller.
