Icom releases new handheld nav/com transceiver

By General Aviation News Staff · February 25, 2005 ·

Lightweight, durable and affordable — these words describe Icom America’s IC-A24 aviation handheld nav/com transceiver and its com-only counterpart, the A6.

The units feature a large keypad and LCD display. Both have the Flipflop Plus channel recall function that allows pilots to recall the 10 most recently used channels with the touch of a button. The units also have a dedicated 121.5 MHz emergency key, and more options for selection of battery. The units can also simultaneously charge and operate from an external power source.

The units have a 200-channel memory, so pilots can enter numerous frequencies. The A24 can also be used with most aviation headsets.

Both the A24 and A6 come with a battery pack, belt clip, wall charger, antenna and handstrap. The A24 also comes with a headset adapter and carrying case.

The A24 sells for approximately $430, while the A6 sells for $330.
