A new airport in central Texas is one step closer to reality. A bill that would free up funding for the airport is working its way through the Texas Legislature. The bill passed through the House of Representatives, as well as the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee, without changes. It has been placed on the Senate consent calendar, which means it will be voted on soon.
If given the nod, the bill will then go to the governor for his signature. The new airport has been needed since the closure of Robert Mueller Field in Austin in the 1990s.
