Rescue Tape debuts at OSH

By General Aviation News Staff · September 23, 2005 ·

Harbor Products’ new self-fusing silicone tape, called Rescue Tape, made its debut at AirVenture 2005.

Rescue Tape may seem familiar to mechanics as its predecessors, known as “F-4 Tape,” have been used in aviation for years.

The new version contains a custom-blended silicone compound that fuses rapidly and permanently. The tape has more strength and durability than other silicone tapes, yet exceeds military specifications, company officials say.

The self-bonding tape has no adhesive. When stretched and wrapped under tension, it bonds to itself, creating an airtight, watertight seal that’s resistant to oils, fuels, acids, solvents, salt water and UV rays.

The tape, which is available in seven colors, sells for $24.99 for a two-roll pack. Additional rolls sell for $6.99 each.
