FAA certifies SimTrain’s Cirrus Level 3 FTD

By General Aviation News Staff · November 18, 2005 ·

SimTrain LLC, a new company specializing in supporting flight training for Cirrus aircraft, has received FAA Level 3 certification for its full-motion Cirrus Flight Training Device located in Kennesaw, Ga., near Atlanta.

SimTrain purchased three Cirrus specific, full-motion simulators from Fidelity Flight Simulation in Pittsburgh and has placed the Fidelity MOTUS simulators in Cirrus Training Centers in Atlanta, Morristown, N.J., and Las Vegas. Certification of the simulators in Morristown and Las Vegas is pending.

FAA Level 3 FTD certification affords SimTrain’s clients the ability to log time while in the simulator with an instructor present. Additionally, time may be logged toward private, instrument, commercial and ATP ratings. SimTrain’s instructors also offer IPCs and BFR using the simulator.

The Fidelity Cirrus simulators are able to replicate a SR22 or SR20 aircraft, and will additionally simulate the Avidyne Entegra PFD or standard instrument displays. Fidelity coordinated closely with Cirrus to provide the necessary components to give the simulators the proper look and feel. These simulators also include a CAPS (Cirrus Airframe Parachute System) deployment scenario, and training programs emphasize the decision-making process leading to CAPS deployment.
