Neiman Marcus does it again with a Skycar prototype

By General Aviation News Staff · November 18, 2005 ·

Last year it was a $10 million Zeppelin. This year Neiman Marcus once again provides aviation enthusiasts with that one-of-a-kind gift, the M400 Skycar prototype, in its 2005 Christmas Book.

“This is the prototype for a groundbreaking mode of transportation that may ultimately combine sci-fi and state of the art technology in the world’s first personal vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft,” the upscale retailer’s catalog promises.

Developed by Moller International, the flagship Skycar is a three-wheeled, folding-wing craft that will travel 350-plus miles per hour and boasts an environmentally friendly 21 miles per gallon on alcohol. Price tag: $3.5 million.

Other gifts in the catalog include a special edition 2007 Lexus GS 450h, the world’s first luxury hybrid performance sedan (priced at $65,000), a train for your back yard, complete with locomotive, cars, caboose, station and 1,000 feet of track (prices begin at $200,000), an IndyCar simulator (priced at $65,000) or a private concert with rock and roll legend Elton John for just $1.5 million, which will be donated to the singer’s AIDS foundation.
