Goodyear to launch new airship

By Janice Wood · December 2, 2005 ·

A new blimp will take to the skies next Spring.

The new airship has been in production for the past two years as a replacement for the Stars & Stripes, one of four Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. blimps. The new blimp will be based at Pompano Beach, Fla.

The Goodyear blimps are celebrating their 80th anniverary this year. Goodyear launched its first public relations blimp, the Pilgrim, in 1925. Over the last 80 years, the company has built more than 300 airships to support its businesses and for the U.S. Navy.
