Chambliss earns fifth national aerobatic title

By General Aviation News Staff · December 8, 2005 ·

After a week of intense competition in October, Kirby Chambliss earned his fifth national championship at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships in Denison, Texas, flying his Red Bull Edge 540.

Chambliss is only the second pilot to earn five championships. The only pilot to win more was the legendary Leo Loudenslager, who won seven titles in the 1980s.

Chambliss captured the Unlimited Class first place position with an overall score of 86.67%, topping runner-up Michael Racy, who tallied 84.39%.

His victory means that Chambliss will lead the 2006 USA Unlimited Aerobatic Team in next year’s World Aerobatic Championships in Spain.
