Legend Aircraft expanding

By Meg Godlewski · January 5, 2006 ·

Construction is underway at American Legend Aircraft Co. in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to house the company’s expanding business.

Based at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport (KSLR), American Legend is building a 20,000-square-foot hangar to house manufacturing, assembly, and research and development functions. Also in the works is a 5,000-square-foot hangar for sales and marketing.

The company, which already has 21,000 square feet of hangar space, manufactures the Legend Cub, a Light Sport Aircraft design that is a refinement of Piper’s J-3 Cub.

The expansion is necessary to keep up with the demand for the Legend Cub, according to company officials. Production capacity is expected to increase from the current four aircraft a month to eight aircraft a month once the new facilities are complete.

The company, which employs 40 people now, also plans to increase staff.
