John Young and Bob Crippen, commander and pilot of the first Space Shuttle flight, are set to appear at this year’s Sun ‘n Fun evening program on April 8. The fly-in runs from April 4 to 10. The program is part of a celebration of the first Shuttle launch, April 12, 1981.
Programs honoring the 20th anniversary of the Voyager flight also are planned. Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager made that historic, non-stop, round-the-world flight in 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds in 1986. Special forums will feature people involved in the planning and execution of the history-making circumnavigation.
Last year’s successful AOPA Day will be repeated on April 7. The organization’s president, Phil Boyer, is scheduled to conduct a Pilot Town Meeting the prior evening. The Sun ‘n Fun schedule includes more than 400 other forums, workshops and FAA Aviation Safety Center events.
