To me, all airplane restoration projects are astounding. The artisans and craftsman and those who are “self taught” accomplish great works of art. However, reading the story and looking at the pictures of before, and almost completed after, of the Halifax Bomber restoration, in my opinion, makes it akin to a miracle (Work continues to bring back the Halifax bomber, Nov. 18 issue). It is incredibly amazing that the men working on that project could begin with the derelict parts of an airplane strewn about on the bottom of a lake 760 feet deep and restore it to authentic original condition.
All of society owes a debt of gratitude to those craftsmen and to all who restore historic airplanes to original, or near original, condition.
