Tanis Aircraft Services has received FAA-PMA approval for a diesel engine preheater, the TAS100-30.
It is specifically designed for the SMA SR 305-230 engines that are becoming popular not only in Europe, but also in North America. The first STC was granted for a Cessna 182Q in Canada. It is certified in the U.S. and several test programs are underway, including Cirrus, Piper, Maule, Akkord, and Vulcanair.
FAA-PMA eligibility for this system is specific for the engine and requires only a mechanic’s logbook entry to install. It is designed to bring the entire engine temperature 60° to 70º F above the outside air temperature in four hours when used as recommended with an insulated cowl cover.
The system has a total wattage of 440 watts and includes heat for all cylinders with screw-in 50-watt elements. The oil sump and case top are heated with bond-on pad elements.
