Runway closes for construction at Washington’s Western Airpark

By General Aviation News Staff · June 23, 2006 ·

Effective July 1, Western Airpark (92W), a privately owned airport in Yelm, Wash., will change from public use to private use, prior permission required. A NOTAM has been issued.

The change is a result of pending gas pipeline construction on and in the vicinity of the approach end of runway 27. A new displaced threshold will be marked, reducing the useable runway length to 2,140 feet and further reducing the effective useful length as a result of closer proximity to the trees on the west end of the runway, eliminating a safe go-around for most aircraft.

The runway lights and rotating beacon will be shut down for the duration of construction, so no night operations are allowed.

For those pilots who have obtained prior permission to land, a duty person will be available at 360-402-5641 for construction status and added information. CTAF 122.8 also will be monitored during active construction periods.
