Cirrus Design Corp. debuted its new Cirrus Turbo at AirVenture

By General Aviation News Staff · August 18, 2006 ·

Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc., of Ada, Okla., will supply the turbonormalizing system, which will feature a twin turbonormalized, dual intercooled engine installation matched with a new three-blade Hartzell lightweight composite propeller and a built-in oxygen system. Also incorporating GAMIjectors balanced fuel/air ratios, this system will provide increased speed while maintaining remarkably cool cylinder head temperatures with less cruise fuel consumption, Cirrus officials said.

“How do you make a Cirrus aircraft more efficient and enable higher altitude flight? You add a turbo,” said Dale Klapmeier, Cirrus vice chairman and co-founder.

“When making the decision about adding the Turbo to our fleet, Cirrus chose the STC path as a matter of integrity. With the real possibility of losing 100 low lead aviation fuel, we felt that we owed it to our customers to be prepared for that day.”

The STC has not yet been approved. Once approved, it will be offered as a factory-installed option.
