Lockheed Martin to develop “road map” for introducing Unmanned Aircraft Systems

By General Aviation News Staff · October 6, 2006 ·

The FAA has tapped Lockheed Martin to develop a “road map” for introducing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System. Lockheed Martin, working with the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Program Office, will look at the “big picture” of the emerging UAS market, evaluating the current state of mission needs, forecasting near-term demands on airspace capacity and charting a strategic plan to safely integrate operations into the nation’s airspace, said Ken Geiselhart, Lockheed Martin project leader. There are more than 50 manufacturers offering nearly 150 UAS products, with many more poised to enter the marketplace, Lockheed Martin officials note.
