Precedent (NJ airport under attack)

By General Aviation News Staff · October 6, 2006 ·

In regards to the letter in the Aug. 18th issue about the New Jersey airport that is under attack (N.J. airport under attack), I wish to add the following: Unfortunately Mr. Walker’s statement that if the NIMBYS are legally successful in any way, it will set a precedent that will affect not only the airports in New Jersey, but airports ALL across our nation is a gross understatement.

If you think that this technique is just for the filthy rich who want to steal an airport, think again. Any business that requires a desirable piece of real estate is vulnerable. Ranching, farming, gravel pits, (you name it) are all prime targets. The issue of right and wrong is lost. The winner is the one left standing. The loser is the one who goes broke paying the legal fees required for the defense. Our legal system has become a “Weapon of Mass Destruction” available to those with gobs of money. Most people running an airport or using a prime piece of real estate are no match for this bunch.

Thank you, Daniel Walker, for alerting me to Steve Forbes. At one time I would have voted for him. Scary.
