Power Flow Systems offers tuned exhaust kit for Diamond DA-40s

By General Aviation News Staff · November 3, 2006 ·

Power Flow Systems, Inc., has earned FAA STC approval allowing owners of Diamond DA-40 Aircraft to retrofit their Lycoming engines with a high performance tuned exhaust system. The system is only available for those models with the MT Propeller. Certification work is in progress for Diamonds with Hartzell propellers.

Power Flow’s Tuned Exhaust System can extract up to an additional 23 horsepower from a Lycoming engine rated at 180 hp, which translates into as much as 8 knots faster cruise, a 15% increase in the rate of climb, a saving of 1.2 gph at current cruise speeds, a reduction in the takeoff roll and up to a 25% increase in cabin heat, say Power Flow officials.

The tuned exhaust does a more efficient job of drawing exhaust gases out of the cylinders, reducing cylinder head temperatures and improving the air/fuel mixture flow. Improved volumetric efficiency, in turn, enhances engine life.

Price for the complete Diamond kit is $4,990.
