From LSA’s to VLJ’s: What’s new with Second Century Aircraft?

By General Aviation News Staff · January 19, 2007 ·

IndUS Aviation offered a sneak peek of some of the components that will make up the all-new Thorpedo LP at this month’s U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Fla. (Look for a full report on the Expo in the next issue).

Dallas-based IndUS plans to debut the new Light Sport Aircraft at this year’s Sun ‘n Fun, slated for April 17-23, according to Scott Severen, director of marketing and sales.

“In our desire to remain proactive in the Light Sport market, we are introducing the all new Thorpedo LP for 2007,” he said. “We expect impressive performance gains for the LP, including an increased cruise at 75% power of 20 knots and improved fuel efficiencies.”

IndUS teamed with LoPresti Speed Merchants for help in refining the Thorpedo’s performance, according to Ram Pattisapu, IndUS president.

The Thorpedo LP will have an aerodynamically advanced engine cowl, as well as landing gear leg and wheel fairings, which IndUS refers to as “cowboy boots.” The LSA also boasts new wingtips, which integrate enclosed nav lights, landing lights and strobes. These refinements give the LP “a sleeker look while dramatically increasing speed and fuel efficiency,” company officials say.
