Texas Sport debuts

By General Aviation News Staff · April 20, 2007 ·

Looking for an aircraft with the ramp appeal of a Piper J-3 Cub, but want the satisfaction of building it yourself?

A new venture by American Legend Aircraft Co. called Texas Sport Aircraft Co. can help you achieve the best of both worlds with the Texas Sport amateur-built aircraft.

The Texas Sport combines features of the J-3, PA-11, and PA-18 designs, according to company officials. The aircraft can be certified to a gross weight of 1,320 lbs. and flown under the Light Sport Aircraft category or certified at a higher gross weight of 1,600 lbs. and be licensed as an experimental aircraft.

Like the Legend Cub, the Texas Sport has some airframe refinements derived from the Piper J-3 model. For example, the Texas Sport cockpit is three inches wider than a J-3. The CG of the Texas Sport is in the wings, which means that it can be safely soloed from the front seat.

The Texas Sport comes with a choice of PA-11 style closed cowl or J-3 style “eyebrows.”
