Mooney concentrates on bottom line

By General Aviation News Staff · May 4, 2007 ·

The new president of Mooney came to his first Sun ‘n Fun with one message: He’s committed to making sure the company’s bottom line remains strong.

“A strong company financially is going to stay around a long time,” said Dennis Ferguson.

Expected to bolster Mooney’s bottom line is the Acclaim, which was introduced at Sun ‘n Fun last year and made its first air show appearance since receiving its certification in December at this year’s Sun ‘n Fun.

The company’s flagship, the Acclaim is powered by a 280-hp Teledyne Continental IO-550-G engine. Its maximum cruise speed of 237 knots makes it one of the fastest piston-engine airplanes on the market, company officials claim.

So far, Mooney has delivered 25 Acclaims, which are priced at $579,900.

One way Mooney is marketing the Acclaim, and its other airplanes, is through the “Mooney Match” program, which identifies pilots who could be potential partners in a plane. Interested pilots fill out a questionnaire online. Mooney representatives then match two or more pilots.

“We do the legwork to bring customers together,” said David Copeland, vp of sales and marketing.
